Female
Prisoner #701: Beast Stable in October

Grindhouse
cinema is the indie word of the month thanks to
publicity magnet Quentin Tarantino's latest collaboration
with friend and colleague Robert Rodriguez. And
while we're on the subject of Tarantino, what was
that song he lifted for the Kill Bill
films? You know the one, titled Urami Bushi, the
theme tune of one of the grindhouse greats, the
1972 Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion
(Joshuu 701-gô: Sasori).
Its cult success ensured a sequel, the same year's
Female Convict Scorpion Jailhouse 41
(Joshuu sasori: Dai-41 zakkyo-bô).
The third in the series appeared the following year,
Female Prisoner Scorpion: Beast Stable
(Joshuu sasori: Kemono-beya).
Meiko
Kaji (femme fatale extraordinaire of the Stray
Cat Rock and Lady
Snowblood series) returns as Sasori, the
Prisoner #701 of the title, now escaped and on the
run. She's found a run-down place to live and even
a sweat-shop job, but it's only a matter of time
before this illusion of normality starts to fall
apart. She catches the eye of a local yakuza, and
events take a turn for the inevitably violent.
having
already released the first two films in the series,
Eureka Entertainment have announced a UK DVD release
of the third for 8th October 2007 at the RRP of
£15.99. The disc will feature an anamorphic
2.35:1 transfer, optional English subtitles and
the original theatrical trailer.
