Puritan in September
31 July 2007

Noir cinema is rare enough these days, but a supernatural film noir, a British supernatural film noir, an independent British supernatural film noir? You'd better believe it. Welcome to the world of Puritan.

Simon Puritan is a hard-drinking, washed-out writer on the road to self-destruction, eking out a living conning the grieving with 'psychic' readings. But his path takes an interesting turn one night when a shadowy disfigured man stops him from being killed by an on-coming train. The figure disappears, but re-emerges as badly-burned and horrendously disfigured Jonathan Grey, who visits Puritan at his home. Grey is a well-spoken, intimidating presence who, it seems, has his own secret agenda for Puritan, and opens up a world of devious intrigue.

Described by Kim Newman in Sight & Sound as "A clever, canny, supernatural thriller," Puritan is the second feature from Hadi Hajaig and stars Nick Moran, Georgina Rylance, Pete Hodge and 70s TV icon David Soul.

Puritan has been announced for a UK DVD release in September by Metrodome with the following special features:

  • Director's commentary;
  • Behind-the-scenes featurette;
  • Deleted scenes;
  • Alternate ending;
  • Complete original score;
  • Gag reel;
  • Trailer.

Release date is 10th September 2007 at the RRP of £15.99.
