Shameless Screen Entertainment launches in October
22 AUgust 2007
Bad
news for moral guardians but good news for fans
of extreme and exploitative horror from the golden
age of the video nasty (I'm thinking of you here,
Gort) is the announcement of the launch of new DVD
label Shameless Screen Entertainment. They are described
by their own PR as "a highly visible, pulp-inspired,
in-your-face exploitation brand of discovery offering
up carefully picked vile, evil, gore-soaked, demented,
disturbing, deranged, naked flesh-filled, flesh-ripping,
depraved, tormenting movies that will delight horror
and exploitation fans." Right up our street,
then.
Many of the titles will be appearing for the first time on UK DVD and some for the first time on any UK home video format. The intention is to bring the longest and best available version of each film at the reasonable price of £12.99 per disc.
The first announced titles are certainly true to the proclaimed credo and include Lucio Fulci's rarely seen 1981 The Black Cat (Gatto nero), Giulio Berutti's notorious 1978 nunsploitation film Killer Nun (Suor Omicidi), Sergio Martino's 1973 Torso (a rather compact abbreviation of the original Italian title I Corpi presentano tracce di violenza carnale), Ruggero Deodato's 1988 Phantom of Death (Un Delitto poco comune) and Lucio Fulci's notoriously violent 1982 New York Ripper (Lo Suartatore di New York), all prints of which former head of the BBFC James Ferman famously ordered escorted to the airport and deported.
So watch out for more details of upcoming titles. I have a feeling we just MIGHT be covering them....
