Election 2 and Exiled in October
22 August

The recent work of prolific Hong Kong action director Johnny To has been widely hailed as a return to his earlier form, with particular praise aimed at his 2005 thriller Election (ak se wui). It's rare to see sequels that equal the original, but the following year's Election 2 (Hak se wui yi wo wai kwai) has been widely hailed as one such beast. Two years after his election to the post of Godfather in the Wo Shing Triad Society, it's time for Lok (Simon Yam) to step down. As the potential candidates for his replacement deal with their own problems, the greedy Lok plans to ensure that he remains in his present position of power. A dark and sometimes violent follow-up to the first film, Election 2 is a Hong Kong Gangster film in the Godfather mould and a clear sign of To's continuing maturity as a drama as well as action director.

To's 2006 action thriller Exiled (Fong juk) tells the story of four Hong Kong gangsters who arrive in the Portuguese colony of Macau, shortly before it is handed back to mainland China. Two have been commissioned by a Hong Kong crime boss to locate and kill a former associate, the other two to stop them. Matters are complicated by the fact that all five were childhood friends and have become separated by the nature of the dark business they are in.

Both films have been announced for a UK DVD release on 22nd October 2007 by Optimum at the RRP of £17.99. Election 2 is a movie-only affair, but Exiled will include a making-of featurette and a trailer.
