Alternative 3 in October
14 September 2007

Back in 1977, Anglia television screened a documentary as part of their Science Report series entitles Alternative 3. Amid concerns about global warming and the greenhouse effect, the programme presented evidence of a government cover-up and of the strange disappearance of 400 scientists. The conclusions drawn prompted genuine alarm, the station's switchboard jammed with calls, many from those worried for the future for life on earth as we know it, but as many from those who realised what was going on here, that the programme was a hoax dressed up as truth.

The furore the programme caused meant that it was never re-transmitted, but it's influence can be felt in the BBC's later Ghost Watch and was the key inspiration for Peter Jackson and Costa Botes' delicious mockumentary Forgotten Silver. Now Soda Pictures are going to offer us the welcome chance to see what all the fuss was about when they release Alternative 3 on UK DVD on 8th October 2007. No extras are listed and the RRP has been set at £15.99.
