Edmond from Tartan in January
25 September 2007

It may seem an unlikely pairing, award-winning playwright David Mamet and Re-Animator director Stuart Gordon, but before Gordon became a movie director he founded Chicago's Organic Theatre, whose members included actors Joe Mantegna and Dennis Franz and whose performance of the play Sexual Perversity in Chicago launched the career of a certain young playwright named, yes, David Mamet.

Edmond traces the downward journey of world-weary businessman Edmond Burke, who hits the streets of New York in a quest for freedom and self-discovery, a journey that becomes a destructive descent into a personal and urban hell. Adapted by Mamet from his own play, the film has at its centre a blistering performance from William H. Macy, who studied under Mamet at Goddard College, Vermont and co-founded with Mamet and writer Steven Schachter the St. Nicholas Theatre in Chicago. Mamet later cast him as the lead in his own 1994 TV adaptation of his controversial play Oleanna.

Tartan have announced a January 2008 UK DVD release for Edmond, whose supporting cast includes Denise Richards (Love, Actually, The World Is Not Enough), Mena Suvari (American Beauty, Six Feet Under), Julia Styles (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Bai Ling (Dumplings, The Crow). Extra features will include the theatrical trailer. Edmond will be released on 7th January 2008 at the RRP of £19.99.
