Poltergeist 25th Anniversary Edition in October

Love it it hate it, and we're taking the fifth on where we stand on this one, but the 1982 horror hit Poltergeist has edged its way into popular culture to the extent that it's famous tagline "They're here!" is one of the most famous in modern cinema. The film has even achieved that crown of pop culture accolades, a reference in The Simpsons. The subject of speculation over the director credit following rumours of producer Steven Spielberg stepping on the artistic toes of director Tobe Hooper. Nominated for three Oscars (Best Original Score, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects), the film stars Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams and Heather O'Rourke.

In care there's anyone out there who doesn't know the plot, the title should give you a clue, as suburban couple Steve and Diane Freeling have their home lives disrupted by paranormal activity. When their young daughter Carole Anne disappears, they are forced to enlist the help of parapsychologists and and a professional exorcist to combat her spiritual abductors.

Warner Home Video have announced Poltergeist as a 25th Anniversary Edition for its first UK DVD release in October. The film itself has been digitally remastered and restored and the disc will also feature a 2-part documentary, They Are Here: The Real World of Poltergeists Revealed.

Poltergeist 25th Anniversary Edition will be released in the UK on 15th October 2007 (another pre-Halloween horror release) at the RRP of £16.99.
