Karas: The Revelation in October

3 October 2007

If you thrilled to the anime feature Karas: The Prophecy - and I have to admit that for us it was an example of style over substance, even if the style was impressive - then you'll no doubt be cheered to learn that the sequel, Karas: The Revelation is all lined up for an October DVD release in the UK, courtesy of Manga Video.

The worlds of humans and demons have overlapped since time immemorial and a young woman named Yuri and her servant, Karas, have long maintained order and balance between the worlds. But humans have finally lost their fears of the denizens of darkness. Disgusted by human arrogance, Karas turns his back on the laws he helped uphold for so long, taking the name Eko and leading a group of mechanized demons in an attack against the human race.

Meanwhile, a detective named Kure, who works at the police division in charge of demon-related incidents, opens a case involving a series of bizarre murders that look like the work of a water demon. Elsewhere, the demon Nue, who came to town to fight Eku, spots a water demon disguised as a famous warrior just as Yuri shows up with a new Karas. This new guardian of the city is determined to stop Eku's evil ambitions, but he has a fierce fight ahead of him.

As with the first film, Karas: The Revelation combines 2D and 3D animation and features an emotive orchestral score performed by the Prague Symphony Orchestra. In addition the English language version features the voice talents of Hollywood stars Hernandez (Hostel) and Matthew Lillard (Scream).

Karas: The Revelation will be released on UK DVD by Manga on 22nd October 2007 at the RRP of £19.99. The soundtrack - one of the real selling points of the original film - is available in Dolby stereo 2.0, Japanese Dolby 5.1 surround, English 6.1 surround and DTS. Optional English subtitles are, of course, also available.

The complete Karas adventure, including both Karas: The Prophecy and Karas: The Revelation, will also be available as a special three-disc Manga Double Bill set from 1st December 2007 for £29.99.
