In
a decade that's seen some fine rock documentaries,
including Some Kind of Monster, End
of the Century, The Devil and Daniel Johnston and the recent The Future is Unwritten,
director Ondi Timoner's 2004 DiG! is a fascinating standout, a film by which all other
fly-on-the-wall documentaries should be judged. DiG! tells the story of two promising new bands, The Brian
Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols, fronted
by good friends Anton Newcombe and Courtney Taylor
respectively. When one of them is offered a recording
contract, the other falls prey to his own self-destructive
jealousies.
Timoner
followed both bands for a period of seven years and
from her 2,000 hours of footage has shaped a compelling,
warts-and-all portrait of the dirty side of friendship
and the music industry. Already available a single
disc release, Tartan video have now announced a long-awaited
2-disc Special Edition for a UK release on 23rd February
2007. Featuring an anamorphic widescreen transfer
and optional Dolby 2.0 stereo, Dolby 5.1 surround
and DTS 5.1 surround, the new edition will have the
following special features:
- Disc 1
- Theatrical Trailer;
- Exclusive interview with director Ondi Timoner;
- Disc 2
- A whole new film's worth of extended and deleted footage including: The Sundance Win; BJM Radio Debut; Anton recording 'Give It Back' Anton on NYC Rooftop; and more crazed antics from Joel Gion;
- Uncut videos of 'Last High', 'Bohemian Like You' and 'Junkie';
- Never-before-seen footage of Joel Gion’s band 'The Dilettantes' (UK Exclusive).
The RRP has been set at £19.99. |
