In a contest to see which film can be fastest from completion to DVD release, Bone Dry looks like being a hands-down winner. Classified as complete in the IMDb, it's still waiting a release of any sort or its first review or user comment, and yet Metrodome have announced a UK DVD release of the film for December. That's not necessarily a bad sign - funding can come from a variety of sources with conditions attached, and straight-to-video is not always the damning term it once was.
Being intriguingly touted as a cross between The Hitcher, Saw and Duel, the film stars Luke Goss (of Blade II and Bros fame) as businessman Eddie, whose perfect life is shattered when he is snatched from a roadside by the armed and dangerous Jimmy (the wonderful Lance Henrikson), who sends Eddie at gunpoint into the Mojave desert towards a series of trials and ambushes, pursuing him as a hunter with an unknown but malevolent agenda. Always two steps ahead, Jimmy stalks, menaces and challenges his prey, breaking his spirit and his body, until hunter and hunted come face to face. At this final destination one last devastating test and a shocking revelation climax in a gruelling showdown of survival at any cost.
First-time director Brett Hart has clearly learned two of the biggest low budget lessons of them all - if you don't have the money, keep your cast small and your location work inexpensive. Let's hope he's learned the most important of the lot - story is king.
Bone Dry is to be released on UK DVD by Metrodome on 26th December at the RRP of £15.99. The disc will include the following special features:
- Commentary with director Brett Hart and star Lance Henriksen;
- The Making of Bone Dry;
- Deleted Scene with optional commentary;
- Bone Dry pitch trailer;
- Trailer.
