If you're unfamiliar with Richard Bracewell's acclaimed debut feature, then I'll hand you over to the official press notes for an introduction:
In the world of London’s male escort agency, Sasha and Trevor have nurtured a successful business from escorting mature single businesswomen. Sasha is the favourite young gigolo of the wealthy over 50s set of Mayfair, whilst Trevor acts as his valet and developing new contacts. One works during the night, the other during daytime. However, when a young pretender arrives, it threatens to fracture the loyalty and trust of the two friends.
Richard Bracewell’s debut feature is a sparkling witty tale of friendship, loyalty and the search for love. The Gigolos is a wonderfully laconic British comedy with subtle performances from Sasha Tarter and Trevor Sarther. They follow in the best tradition of comedy duo such as Mitchell and Webb, David Walliams and Matt Lucas. Their antics are comparable to The Likely Lads, The Odd Couple and The Office.
Bracewell captures the complexities of their friendship as well as providing good location shooting in and around London's Mayfair/Knightsbridge society set. His experience of working in TV with the likes of Al Murray The Pub Landlord and Ruby Wax has prepared him for The Gigolos.
The film also features memorable supporting roles from a quartet of highly respected actresses: Susannah York (A Man For All Seasons; Superman), Anna Massey (Peeping Tom; The Machinist),Sian Phillips (I Claudius; Tinker Tailor, Soldier, Sailor), and Angela Pleasance (TV’s The Six Wives of Henry VIII; Gangs of New York).
The Gigolos is a buddy-buddy movie with a difference. Discretion guaranteed.
The UK DVD of The Gigolos will be released on 11th February 2007 by Tartan at the RRP of £15.99. The disc will feature an anamorphic widescreen transfer, optional Dolby stereo 2.0, Dolby surround 5.1 and DTS 5.1 surround soundtracks. and the following special features:
- Director and cast commentary;
- Pilot episode for BBC comedy series, The Big Idea;
- Trailer.
