SiCKO in January

21 November 2007

Michael Moore's success as a political documentary filmmaker can be best measured in the degree of anger he excites in those of opposing political viewpoints - just mention his name and watch those on the right start foaming at the mouth. We, of course, have a lot of time for Mr. Moore, not least because his runaway success with Bowling for Columbine helped a lot of other documentary filmmakers get their work shown, seen and appreciated.

Sicko cover

His latest film, SiCKO, compares the American health care system to that of other nations and draws soem rather grim conclusions, and in the has is one of his most acclaimed films to date, with even some of his usual detractors (not Mark Kermode, I'll bet) admitting that there are some persuasive arguments put forward.

A UK DVD release of SiCKO has been announced for a 7th January 2008 release in the UK (yeah, thanks, one day before our cinema screening - Slarek) from Optimum with the following extra features:

  • Raising Money To Fight Cancer featurette;
  • H.R. 676 (Sicko Goes To Washington) featurette;
  • Deleted scenes:  Is Norway Utopia?; General Electric in France;
  • Religious Freedom Father Mike featurette;
  • Sicko Los Angeles Premiere;
  • Alone Without You Music Video Performed by Tom Morello;
  • An Interview With Marica Angel;
  • An Interview With Elizabeth Warren;
  • An Interview with Aleida Guevara;
  • Tony Benn: A Champion for the People featurette.

Sicko will be released on 7th January 2008 by Optimum Releasing at the RRP of £7.99. The same day Optimum will also release The Michael Moore Collection, which will contain Sicko, Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine. Sicko will contain the same extra features as the stand-alone release, Fahrenheit 9/11 will be the same as disc 1 of the previous 2-disc release from Optimum, while Bowling for Columbine will be the vanilla disc previously released by Momentum. Price to be confirmed.
